Shrimp Cocktail with a spicy kick.
Whether you are planning for a small, socially-spaced gathering or just searching for a way to make any meal feel a little more special, why not serve a classic Shrimp Cocktail with a spicy kick. For the most part, an appetizer such as Shrimp Cocktail is associated with a big steakhouse dinner, but you don’t have to make reservations in order to enjoy my super easy to prepare Spicy Shrimp Cocktail.
Easy to prepare Shrimp
Generally, I like to start with a bag of frozen, large tail-on shrimp that has already been cooked, peeled and deveined. Starting the day before, I remove shrimp from freezer and empty into a bowl. I always keep the bowl covered and refrigerated while the shrimp thaws for approximately 24 hours. Once the shrimp has thawed, I transfer to a colander and rinse, removing any bits and broken shell.
When making this, you can use the entire bag for my Spicy Shrimp Cocktail or you can save a portion of the defrosted and rinsed shrimp in a sealed container in your refrigerator. I like to enjoy any extra shrimp in my lunch salad, on the next day.
Once the shrimp has been rinsed, just pat dry with a towel. Next, you can arrange the shrimp on a platter or individuals bowls if you prefer. Cover and place the arranged shrimp back in the refrigerator to chill.

The Cocktail Sauce
The cocktail sauce can also be made ahead of time. I believe it taste even better when done that way and so, I usually prepare it the night before. I personally love spicy shrimp cocktail with just a squeeze of lemon for freshness, but I am aware that not everyone is a fan of the heat. In that case, I simply set up a little bowl with ketchup only. Little kids, especially love being able to dip their own shrimp.

You will need:
- 3/4 cup Ketchup
- 3 heaping tbsp. Spicy Horseradish
- Juice from 1/2 Lemon + a few Lemon wedges
- 1 tsp. Worcestershire Sauce
- Tabasco Sauce to taste
- 1 lb. cooked Shrimp, peeled, deveined and rinsed
- a handful of Parsley, chopped
How to make Spicy Shrimp Cocktail
In a small bowl, combine ketchup, horseradish, lemon juice, Worcestershire sauce and Tabasco. Place bowl on platter with chilled cooked Shrimp. Sprinkle with chopped parsley and serve with lemon wedges.
